Fallen Tree Permalink

A tree fell down in our nearby park. Oddly it wasn't windy but probably the cold that brought it down, the inside of the trunk was hollow near the base. Thankfully it didn't land on anyone! Needless to say, firewood has been gathered...

Firedrop2 Plugin - Show Google Reader Shared Items Permalink

This a quick plugin for FireDrop to share your GReader items in your blog. Requires the rather cool FeedParser. Remember to change the URL or you will be sharing my items!

# Plugin: Grab Google Reader items
import feedparser

class GRSharePlugin(object):
    button_text = "GR Shared Items"

    def OnClick(self, mainframe):
        d = feedparser.parse("http://www.google.com/reader/public/atom/user/14887738374122955936/state/com.google/broadcast")
        entry = mainframe.active_entry
        entry['body'] = entry['body'] + '<ol>\r\n'
        for item in d.entries:
            entry['body'] = entry['body'] + '<li> <a href=\"' +  item.link + '\">\r\n'
            entry['body'] = entry['body'] + item.title
            entry['body'] = entry['body'] + '</a>\r\n'
        entry['body'] = entry['body'] + '</ol>\r\n'
        mainframe.editor.SetValue(entry.tostring())
        mainframe.SaveCurrentEntry()

Lifespring! Family Bible Daily Audio Gadget Permalink

Here's another Google Gadget for Lifespring - this fits into your personalised homepage. The schedules starts again on the 10th January.

To help create this and the Google Calendar for LFB, I used IronPython to download the podcast entries and the CPython Interface (with regular Python) to create the Calendar entries.

Click the button to add to your Calendar!

Google From An iPAQ Permalink

I have been using my iPAQ a lot lately. Mainly, it is as portable web browser. So nice. So silent. Google have also completed a lot of updates including the stand alone Maps application.

GMail mobile has been updated, probably targetted at smartphones though attachments don't seem to work. Reader works excellently though I have one niggle with it. Quite cool to be able to share a story with a tap of the stylus (I'll sort this blogs template shortly!). Calendar works well too and I've given up on the built in PDA features even with all the addons I have.

The mobile versions have some shortcuts built to the phone pad numbers (my iPaq has no keyboard) but sadly these do not work with the onscreen keyboards. Possibly worth a try in Opera. Anyway definitely looking forward to a Google phone!

Bombs Permalink

Yes, Carnoustie has UXB's. These second world war leftovers appear on the beach from time to time. There was also a controlled explosion tonight - I missed it by about 15 mins but there's probably not much to see.

To think of the amount of time I spend on that beach... how close have Dandy and I been...

Films Permalink

Perhaps watching films with children changes the way you look at them or my suspended disbelief is getting harder to maintain. Today I was really annoyed about the bunch of adventurers who visited the forest moon in camouflaged uniforms on a critical mission to get the bad guys... BUT yes let's take the shiny gold robot without a spot of mud on him to dampen the shine. I am glad I got that off my chest. Thank you.
