Latedecember Backup - Source Released Permalink

What is the best free virtual Linux that I effortlessly get wxPython, Wax and Pythoncard running on? Ubuntu? The reason I ask is that LD Backup is finally out the door and cross-platform support is high on the TODO list. Check out the LDBackup page for more details. Windows installer is nearly ready for release too but I held back on that one as this is for a development. Personal life has been demanding so apologies for the delay since the last post.

This is a small simple project to encourage newbies to get involved in Open Source, learn more Python and to give me some experience in running a project. One Mac User has expressed an interest so that's a start :-) It is also a handy tool which I have used for months to backup my files. So despite all my warnings and disclaimers it is pretty solid though I couldn't resist a few tweaks before I upload the code tonight.

Latedecember Backup - Nearly Released Permalink

I had hoped to get a full 'first release' online tonight but time/energy is against me! At least the docs made it online tonight so you can checkout what LDBackup is all about (I have blogged about it in the past). It is a fairly simple program written in Pythoncard so good for newbies and learners (like me!). LDBackup will be open source (something BSD-Like).

Some feedback would be great if you have ideas for how to develop the app. I doubt there is much demand for something so GUI on Linux but I would like it to be cross-platform if there is some demand. Related to that, what is the best free virtual Linux that I effortlessly get wxPython, Wax and Pythoncard running on? Ubuntu?

On yet another related note, Vista seems to have pretty cool backup features built in including something close to Ghost for system image backups.
